Star Wars Miniatures
The Star Wars Miniatures collection offers a great board game that doesn't require too much time or space to play. The miniatures are also exactly the right size for use with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game, which I would highly recommend. The old roleplaying system was made by West End Games, which I haven't tried.

5 out of 5 stars My second favorite system right now   March 2, 2010
Aaron Keating
My first fave is 4e. That being said being my second favorite out of the plethora of games I've read and played? That's not a bad deal at all. (Number three would be Savage Worlds.)

Star Wars Saga if you couldn't guess is the current Star Wars system. It can be run in varying Eras of play depending on which supplement books you own or are willing to buy. The core book can be run in any Era of play and introduces you to the base mechanics of the game, which are in my opinion the best evolution of the 3e and Modern D20 rule sets. All of the good very little of the bad remains. That being said, it's not quite as refined as Fourth Edition in some places, but that's a minor quibble.

The previous two editions of Star wars were craptastic in gameplay and balance. *ESPECIALLY Ship Combat!* Force powers in the previous two editions were far too over the top to the point that much like a 3e caster frankly there wasn't a point in being anything else which really hurt the game. To say nothing of the over complicated skill list, rank system, and over abundance of Repeat Classes. In short they were a Train Wreck that we only played a handful of times.

Saga Fixes ALL of these problems of the 3e and Modern D20 line. It doesn't have healing surges, extended rests or milestones which are things I would really like to have. But the game is still amazingly good.

Shortly after 4e came out I turned a friend towards Saga because I wanted to see the game that helped 4e become what it was. I saw a really good system, possessing most of what I had done to 3e at my table house rule wise as it was and garbaging the things I didn't like. It also made me think This is Star Wars.

We played it shortly after I turned him over to it and it was a blast. I still had things I doubted about it, but for the most part those have gone away as rain drops of complaints in a sea of fantastic, fast and cinematic Gameplay. The system is also flexible enough that I can easily port it over to other Science Fiction settings. I'm presently working on Homebrew material to run a Mass Effect game.
My only regret? That I hadn't bought this system sooner.

Saga is going away after this year. So get it while you can. You won't be disappointed. If you like RPGS this is worth picking up. If you like Star Wars this is a must have. If you like Scifi in general this is a Must have. If you like all of the above you should be smacked for not owning this sooner!

5 out of 5 stars A Solid Game System.   February 26, 2010
Max Nevill (BC, Canada)
This is a true improvement over the previous D20 SW RPG.

There are more streamlined rules for just about every aspect of the game. I believe almost any major/minor character in the SW universe could be at least roughly modeled with the classes/powers as presented. The complexity of the rule system can be ramped up or powered down, it is definitely a "middle" of the road game in terms of rule complexity. Generally speaking, I found however something worked in the previous version, this has a simpler system that feels more like the movies. (At least to me, your mileage may vary.)

Now that this RPG has had its licensed discontinued, no other RPG maker can afford to make this. If you're waffling about whether or not to buy, I'd recommend buying. The art and binding of this book is top notch. 5/5 for me.

5 out of 5 stars Just what I needed   February 11, 2010

A great price on a great RPG, it was just what I was looking for.

4 out of 5 stars Great game, but missing some details.   January 25, 2010
Ashley N. Todd
Let me start out by saying that really this book was for my husband. He is a huge RPG fan and had been wanting to check out this new edition since it came out. That said he seems to enjoy it very much. There were only two reasons he suggested giving it a four star rather than a five star rating. First, much of the art in this edition has been pulled from the last two editions of the game published by Wizards of the Coast. We realize that good art is expensive, and licensing Star Wars art is likely not cheap, that said, if you own either of the previous two editions of this setting, you own 80% or more of the art in this book. Secondly, while the book has streamlined the combat, skills, character creation and other important aspects of the game, it has far less detail on specific items available for purchase than either of the previous editions. Giving very little art to illustrate most equipment and vehicles, important aspects of most sci-fi RPGs. Other than that, the book has great information on playing a wide variety of species, a good selection of well balanced classes, and a much more fun way of using the Force and Destiny to great effect in your game. A good buy, but lacking in the detail of previous editions.

5 out of 5 stars Best Star Wars RPG Since WEG D6!   January 22, 2010
Caleb A. Keller (Ames, IA)
I know that the title for my review is a little confusing, so let me interpret: Wizards of the Coast's Saga Edition RPG is the best Star Wars roleplaying game since West End Game's D6 version of Star Wars. I have played every version of the Star Wars RPG (both of WEG's and all three of Wizard's) and this is by far the best of the D20 versions. WEG's version was very fast, very cinematic, and very much in the spirit of the original Star Wars trilogy. Unfortunately, the first two version of the Wizard's D20 system were like the Star Wars prequel trilogy: plodding, unnecessarily complicated, tedious, even dull. But with Saga Edition, we finally get back to the spirit of Star Wars: quick and cinematic, like living out a movie. I won't say that none of the excesses of the D20 system are there (the rules governing vehicle statistics, for example, are needless complex and not well delineated). Be that as it may, Saga Edition is a major step forward from the previous two versions. One of the best features of Saga Edition (and I could list many) is that this version has finally solved the dilemma of the over-powered Jedi. In the previous two versions, low-level Jedi were very well balanced with non-Jedi characters, but as they gained levels the Jedis left the other character classes in the dust. Saga Edition solves this problem very well, so that characters of various classes remain comparable, even as they reach the higher levels.

In short: if you enjoy quick, fun, cinematic Star Wars RPG gaming, you will love this product!
