Star Wars Miniatures
The Star Wars Miniatures collection offers a great board game that doesn't require too much time or space to play. The miniatures are also exactly the right size for use with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game, which I would highly recommend. The old roleplaying system was made by West End Games, which I haven't tried.

Product Description
After the fierce combat of Hard Contact, Triple Zero, and True Colors comes the spectacular culmination of New York Times bestselling author Karen Traviss’s gripping Republic Commando series. As a battle-scarred era nears its end, a shattering power play is about to stun the entire galaxy . . . and set in motion events that will alter destinies and resound throughout history.

Even as the Clone Wars are about to reach an explosive climax, no one knows if victory will favor the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) or the Separatists. But no matter who wins, the stakes are highest for elite Special Ops clones like the Republic Commandos in Omega and Delta squads–and the notorious renegade Advance Recon Commando troopers known as Null ARCs.

With Republic forces stretched to the max and casualties mounting, the last thing these beleaguered warriors need to hear is that Chancellor Palpatine is keeping vast armies of secret clone troops in reserve. Sergeant Skirata, a mentor to the clone commandos, has no intention of standing idly by while Palpatine sends them into battle like lambs to the slaughter. Skirata begins to plan the clones’ escape from the GAR, but his heroic effort will be in vain unless he can reverse the clones’ accelerated aging process.

Caught in the treacherous dealings of their leaders, and locked in the battles of their lives, the disillusioned Null ARCs and Commandos nonetheless fight with everything they’ve got, determined to wrest victory from the Seps and save the galaxy.

But even the deadliest weapons may not be powerful enough to defeat the real menace. And nothing will stop the apocalyptic horror unleashed when Palpatine utters the chilling words The time has come. Execute Order 66. Translation: The Jedi have tried to stage a coup, and all must be shot on sight.

With their faith in the Republic and their loyalty to their Jedi allies put to the ultimate test, how will the men of Omega and Delta squads react to the most infamous command in galactic history? All the breathtaking action, suspense, and intrigue of Karen Traviss’s Republic Commando series comes alive in Star Wars: Order 66.

5 out of 5 stars Great   December 30, 2008
I always felt Order 66 was some kind of brainwash or chip-like action, but no. The author spells out the many orders the clones had to know and 66 was just another in many contingency orders. I also was impressed she introduced the idea that not all clones blindly followed. Many were effected by the Jedi thay followed. Great looked into what makes the clones tick.

5 out of 5 stars Superb novel transcends franchise   November 23, 2008
I make no secret about being an unabashed Traviss fan. I have purchased almost novel she's had published and have yet to be disappointed.

ORDER 66 had a lot to live up to, with three exceptionally good novels preceding it in the RC series. The attachments the readers have formed to the characters do not go unrewarded as the growing circle of Commandos, Clones, their training sergeants, and the Jedi who have come to understand what it means to command, all hit the breaking point as the climax of the Clone Wars draws closer.

There is no shortage of tension through Order 66 and the scenes of various troopers being pushed beyond the limit ring too true with today's battlefields and the appalling lack of support combat troops face every day. This isn't a story of angst-ridden mystics failing at romance, but rather a story about soldiers, family, trust, and loss.

This is a magnificent novel regardless of genre and shows just how well a spin-off can be done in the right hands.

5 out of 5 stars Lovely End... or is it really the end   November 20, 2008
Is it really the end of the RC series... probably, given certain events in the book... is it the end of these characters... probably not. There is enough opening at the end to continue the story with a different series. I think KT might have built enough of a following to support that. Just encourage all your friends to buy this book, if you want to see more. B/c it all comes down to money, unfortunately.

That aside... the title plot (Order 66) seemed far too ancillary (secondary) to be worthy. But that is my one major nit... and it's not even that big of a deal. It did seem rushed, but the rest of the story was so good... character-wise, plot-wise, dialogue... that the lapse in dwelling on Order 66 is forgivable.

If you're a RC fan... go for this book, it's definitely a worthwhile read. If you don't like Mandalorians... then it may not be for you.

4 out of 5 stars Order 66: Worth Buying in Hardback   November 11, 2008
Before buying Order 66, I read all the other Republic Commando books and loved them. They are all excellent when it comes to juggling several characters and making them all three-dimensional. Order 66 continues the tradition of the others and really makes these characters come to life.

I wish that the main characters had more of a role within Order 66, so that more of the conflict could be explored. However, I understand Traviss' decision not to do so, as the only Jedi Delta and Omega routinely deal with are not their commanding officers, but their friends.

All in all, I think this is an excellent book. It's worth ponying up the extra money for a hardback, but you won't suffer too much if you wait for paperback. Plus a paperback would look better with the other paperbacks in the series on your shelf, rather than three soft covers and a hard.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing! KANDOSII!!!   November 9, 2008

This whole series is fantastic. I laughed, cried, cheered, cursed and hoped. I found it to be a refreshing look at what the 'clones' actually did and how they contributed to the republic. Who would have thought that each clone had a different personality! SPECTACULAR! I pray there are more to come! I'd love to know the trials Kad'ika goes through!

Kandosii Kar'ika! OYA!

Is This a Good Idea?
In my area, not too many people play. there are some people intrested, but they don't have many pieces so they can't justify paying the 6$ entry fee to play every week. i plan on making some pre-constructed squads for them that they can purchase from me. i'd be selling off most of the stuff i don't...

Why do we need sooo many Vaders?
I love the game and I think Wizards has done a fine job with the figures. Why do they keep remaking the same characters over and over? How many Vaders do we need? or Luke, Lando and Han? What about Ben Skywalker, Jaina Sword to the Jedi, Zekk, or Jagged Fel dark jedi hunter? There are soooooo many...

hey, any pro converters, can you make this guy?
i think he's from Episode 5 as i recall seeing him in the background of the anakin/padme romance scenes on the beach in Naboo. those crazy backwoods nabooite free-wheelin' hippies! i'm not sure what base model we'd have to use in SWM to make him though... :D ...

My son is going to be a great Jedi Knight
A few months ago, I posted the picture of my 1 1/2 year-old son hugging a lightsaber at Target. So last night I was playing my brother in a game (see thread "Time for an Intervention") and my son came walking up and wanted to sit on my lap. He doesn't really talk yet, but I could see the glimmer...

Time for an Intervention
So, for the longest time, my brother has put together the some pretty bad squads. He usually rejects my advice (but not all) by saying that he has a different "playing style". (Sounds like denial to me ;) ) Anyhow, I've never given him a hard time about it because we play for fun. However, last...

Cade Skywalker? Amazingly Broken!
Well, when he first came out, and people used him with Doombot, he was a pain, but an expensive pain, and not a big threat. I'm sure in bigger games, he isn't a major factor. However, with his long removed female ancestor, Padme Amidala, Senator, he has a place to be one of the most broken pieces...
