Star Wars Miniatures
The Star Wars Miniatures collection offers a great board game that doesn't require too much time or space to play. The miniatures are also exactly the right size for use with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game, which I would highly recommend. The old roleplaying system was made by West End Games, which I haven't tried.

Product Description
Two years have passed since Jacen Solo, seduced by the dark side and reanointed as the brutal Sith Lord Darth Caedus, died at the hands of his twin sister, Jaina, Sword of the Jedi. For a grieving Han and Leia, the shadow of their son’s tragic downfall still looms large. But Jacen’s own bright and loving daughter, Allana, offers a ray of hope for the future as she thrives in her grandparents’ care. And when the eager, inquisitive girl, in whom the Force grows ever stronger, makes a curious discovery aboard her grandfather’s beloved spacecraft–the much-overhauled but ever-dependable Millennium Falcon–the Solo family finds itself at a new turning point, about to set out on an odyssey into uncertain territory, untold adventure, and unexpected rewards.
To Han, who knows every bolt, weld, and sensor of the Falcon as if they were parts of himself, the strange device Allana shows him is utterly alien. But its confounding presence–and Allana’s infectious desire to unravel its mystery–are impossible to dismiss. The only answer lies in backtracking into the past on a fact-finding expedition to retrace the people, places, and events in the checkered history of the vessel that’s done everything from making the Kessel Run “in less than twelve parsecs” to helping topple an evil empire.

From the moment the Falcon broke loose from a Corellian assembly line like an untamed creature with a will of its own, it seemed destined to seek out trouble. It wasn’t long before the feisty YT-1300 freighter went from shuttling cargo to smuggling contraband. But it‘s a fateful rendezvous on Coruscant, at the explosive height of the Republic/Separatist uprising, that launches a galaxywide cat-and-mouse game whose newest players are Han, Leia, Allana, and C-3PO. And they’re not alone: Crime lords, galactic pirates, rogue politicians, and fortune hunters alike loom at every turn of the quest–each with his or her own desperate stake in the Millennium Falcon’s most momentous mission. Through the years and across the stars, from the Rim worlds to unknown points beyond, the race will lead them all to a final standoff for a prize some will risk everything to find–and pay any cost to possess.

3 out of 5 stars Not a bad book...just vanilla   January 6, 2009
Millenium Falcon is what it is, a filler book between two series. It was vanilla -- there were some parts that really kept my attention, but several more that didn't. More specifically, the book comes to its ending and culmination rather abruptly, leaving the reader with a feeling of emptiness.

One thing I did appreciate, was Luceno's attempt to segway into the forthcoming Star Wars series by including the current details surrounding Luke and the Jedi Order.

Buy this book used.

1 out of 5 stars Atrocious...   December 28, 2008
Stilted dialogue; the ending sunders any hope of this title having any redeeming quality. Lamest premise - Millennium Falcon meet the Maltese Falcon. Yes I did catch the sad theft of the old classic.

1 out of 5 stars I Was Very Disappointed   December 18, 2008

Hearing that this book was coming out, I eagerly awaited its release. I had it on hold at the library before they even put it on the shelf... I'm so glad I didn't pay for it. I would request a refund. In comparison to the many other books I've read, far more than one would want to admit, Millennium Falcon disappoints. The story is shallow and lacks the exploits Star War's fans like me are used to. One of the best action scenes actually occurs at a pet show. I was waiting for Cesar Millan to make an appearance. The story is fine for background information, but it is anti-climactic. Maybe the purpose is to set-up the next "brand-new epic series?" We'll know in soon enough. In the meantime, I would not recommend this book unless you're a Millennium Falcon fanatic.

2 out of 5 stars It just doesn't seem like Star Wars   December 4, 2008

First off, let me say that Luceno is one of my favorite Star Wars authors- I always look forward to his and Matthew Stover's entries in the series. That said, this book was a disappointment to me. As with all Luceno books (including the Robotech novels, of which I have read a few), it reads easily. He seems to know just how much detail the reader can digest without causing their mind to wander. He is also skilled with dialogue and with understanding the core Star Wars characters. However, although Han has always brought humor to the franchise, it's usually not as the stooge he is sometimes portrayed as here. That, coupled with elements like dog shows and circuses, made it hard for me to believe that this was the Star Wars universe. Add to that, the incredible coincidences of timing and in the multiple ways that the characters' paths kept crossing and plausibility went right out the window. Finally, once the whole thing finally crawled to the "climax," I felt like I'd wasted time and money on a story that really didn't matter to me. For me, the best Star Wars has always been the space-cowboy or space-opera brand. That is missing here. Hoping for a better outcome with LUKE SKYWALKER AND THE SHADOWS OF MINDOR.

2 out of 5 stars Medicore Effort - Disappointing Ending   December 4, 2008
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

I've read a good number of Star Wars expanded universe books over the years. I liked the stand alone stories and 3 book arcs like the original Heir to the Empire trilogy. Longer arcs like the New Jedi Order lost my interest after a few books.

So when Millennium Falcon (MF) appeared in the bookstore, I decided to give it a spin. Given that I am a history (real history that is) buff, I thought a back story on the Falcon would be an entertaining read.

Alas, I found the writing very uneven and difficult to follow. The premise to have the Solo's track the history of the Falcon was a good idea conceptually. But adding a layer of having several groups of people wanting to also get to the Falcon at the same time was ill-advised.

I found the overall story boring and the various characters were just not that interesting. The only character I liked (to a certain degree) was Amalia / Allana. She is supposed to be young and her character was probably the only one written properly. CP30 as the co-pilot and mechanic of the Falcon was a little odd. As I haven't followed the more recent books, I don't know if C3PO's character has changed. However, the way C3P0 spoke was also not very well written.

Most disappointing of all was the ending. All throughout the book, there was a promise of something "big" or "major" to be revealed. Alas, that was not the case. As I got to the final pages of the book and the ending was revealed, I was like "what the heck?"

All in all, like another reviewer said, it may be best to wait for the paperback version of the book OR maybe a visit to the library.

Vader JH, meet Jolee Bindo
So it's a bsic B&B concept at 200, but added Jolee for his ability to not help the troops, but help Vader, who barely needs help as is, but is even more of a tank with a small bonus to his attack and defense score. And this leaves me an extra point, but I'm happy with it. Any thoughts, I haven't...

Is This a Good Idea?
In my area, not too many people play. there are some people intrested, but they don't have many pieces so they can't justify paying the 6$ entry fee to play every week. i plan on making some pre-constructed squads for them that they can purchase from me. i'd be selling off most of the stuff i don't...

Why do we need sooo many Vaders?
I love the game and I think Wizards has done a fine job with the figures. Why do they keep remaking the same characters over and over? How many Vaders do we need? or Luke, Lando and Han? My son is going to be a great Jedi Knight
A few months ago, I posted the picture of my 1 1/2 year-old son hugging a lightsaber at Target. So last night I was playing my brother in a game (see thread "Time for an Intervention") and my son came walking up and wanted to sit on my lap. He doesn't really talk yet, but I could see the glimmer...

Time for an Intervention
So, for the longest time, my brother has put together the some pretty bad squads. He usually rejects my advice (but not all) by saying that he has a different "playing style". (Sounds like denial to me ;) ) Anyhow, I've never given him a hard time about it because we play for fun. However, last...

Cade Skywalker? Amazingly Broken!
Well, when he first came out, and people used him with Doombot, he was a pain, but an expensive pain, and not a big threat. I'm sure in bigger games, he isn't a major factor. However, with his long removed female ancestor, Padme Amidala, Senator, he has a place to be one of the most broken pieces...
